We were so “Happy Together” creating a series of campaign trailers for Gearbox Software’s AAA behemoth, Borderlands 3. Our psychedelic cinematic hero asset was set to the summer-of-love sounds of The Turtles and infused with, obviously, a million guns, dancing Psychos, ALL THE WEIRDNESS, and every effect we could find. We followed up this killer cut of choreographed chaos with four character trailers showing off the game’s new Vault Hunters, delivering more key marketing beats for the game.
We burst open every loot box of technical tricks across these creatives. The secret sauce included mountains of mocap, beautiful hand animation, VFX compositing in post, custom particle systems, VFX/lighting all over everything AND we extracted eye-bleedingly high-quality renders from the Unreal dev build.
Borderlands 3 - Moze Trailer
This project is an excellent example of how we’re able to flex and scale. We worked closely with Gearbox, collaborating on ideas directly with their dev team, and troubleshooting build issues. We also engaged outsourcing companies from our Keywords family and beyond, and called upon the talents of our trusted freelancer network. Creative direction, core production, project management, and coordination all took place from our Brighton HQ. The result was a series of cost-effective trailers that drew upon the talents of artists, animators, engineers, and creatives based across three continents, and they wowed millions of gamers around the world.
